چکیده

In order that discrete symmetries should not be violated by gravitational effects, it is necessary to gauge them. In this paper we discuss the gauging of ZZN from the breaking of a high energy SU(N) gauge symmetry, and derive consistency conditions for the resulting discrete symmetry from the requirement of anomaly cancellation in the parent symmetry. These results are then applied to a detailed analysis of the possible discrete symmetries forbidding proton decay in the minimal supersymmetric standard model.

Low Energy Consequences of Five Dimensional SO(10)

We consider five dimensional (5D) supersymmetric SO(10) compactified on the orbifold S/(Z2 × Z ′ 2) such that the SO(10) gauge symmetry is broken on both fixed points (branes), and the residual gauge symmetry is SU(3)c × SU(2)L×U(1)Y ×U(1)X . We explore one example in which the gauge symmetries on the two branes are respectively SU(5)×U(1) and SU(4)c × SU(2)L × SU(2)R, and the MSSM gauge symmet...

Spontaneously Broken Su ( 5 ) Symmetries and One - Loop Effects in the Early Universe ∗

This paper studies one-loop effective potential and spontaneous-symmetrybreaking pattern for SU(5) gauge theory in De Sitter space-time. Curvature effects modify the flat-space effective potential by means of a very complicated special function previously derived in the literature. An algebraic technique already developed by the first author to study spontaneous symmetry breaking of SU(n) for r...

Discrete gauge symmetries and proton stability in the U(1)-extended MSSM

The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with conserved Rparity suffers from several fine-tuning problems, e.g. the μ-problem and the problem of proton decay through higher dimension operators. Both of these problems can be avoided by replacing R-parity with a non-anomalous U(1)′ gauge symmetry which is broken at the TeV scale. The new gauge symmetry does not necessarily forbid all reno...

Discrete Symmetry and GUT Breaking

We study the supersymmetric GUT models where the supersymmetry and GUT gauge symmetry can be broken by the discrete symmetry. First, with the ansatz that there exist discrete symmetries in the branes’ neighborhoods, we discuss the general reflection Z2 symmetries and GUT breaking on M 4 × M1 and M4 × M1 × M1. In those models, the extra dimensions can be large and the KK states can be set arbitr...

Flavor “Conservation” and Hierarchy in TeV-scale Supersymmetric Standard Model

Recently a TeV-scale Supersymmetric Standard Model (TSSM) was proposed in which the gauge coupling unification is as precise (at one loop) as in the MSSM, and occurs in the TeV range. Proton stability in the TSSM is due to an anomaly free Z3 ⊗ Z3 discrete gauge symmetry, which is also essential for successfully generating neutrino masses in the desirable range. In this paper we show that the TS...
